Important Lab Information

  • GET BLOOD WORK ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO EVERY APPOINTMENT.  Thyroid dosing changes over time according to your health, weight, and other medical conditions.  In order to best treat your thyroid, it is very important to know what your current thyroid levels are.
  • IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT WE RECEIVE YOUR LAB RESULTS.  If you use Labcorp, it will be sent to us automatically.  If you use any other lab (such as your PCP or local hospital), you need to make sure they fax or email the results to us.  Just because you ask them to, they may not, so also request a copy be sent to you in case they don’t send it to us.  If we don’t receive your results and you don’t have them either, no refunds will be given.  There’s no need to email or message us asking if we have your labs…… as long as you have the results, they can be discussed at your upcoming appointment.

Instructions For Getting Blood Work

  • Take your medicine normally the day of your labs.
  • The ideal time to get thyroid blood work is 2-4 hours after taking your medicine.
  • Although usually not required, just assume that you should be fasting for at least 4 hours prior to your labs.
  • Do not take biotin (or any hair or nail supplement) for at least 48 hours prior to your blood draw as this can interfere with the results.

Additional Lab Information

  • If you will be unable to get your labs in time, consider rescheduling your appointment.  We will still be happy to see you, but we won’t change your dose without labs.  This will also require an additional paid appointment when your labs are complete.
  • It is your responsibility to work with the lab and/or your insurance company if you have any billing issues.
  • Prior to paying for blood work, insurance companies require diagnosis codes to prove you have a problem that requires labs.  We will write what we feel are appropriate codes on your order.  However, not all insurances cover all labs, and some insurances only cover certain labs at certain intervals.  It is your responsibility to understand your particular plan and to pay for your appropriate labs.

Labcorp Self-Pay Pricing

We have negotiated cash pay rates with Labcorp that tend to be much lower than what you will find almost anywhere else.  We are also usually cheaper than most insurances.  This is great if you have a high deductible health care plan or if you just prefer to use cash.  Remember that these labs are cash-pay and will not get processed through your medical insurance.  This deal is only valid at Labcorp.
